Client: Farsley Farfield Primary School
Principal Contractor: R.H. Fullwood & Co. Ltd.
Scope Of Works: Groundworks, Paving & Car Park
Works Completed: August 2014
Farsley Farfield Primary School is located in the picturesque town of Farsley, which is situated 6 miles to the west of Leeds city centre. The school has enviable grounds that play a large role in how pupils learn, including a conservation area, orchard, chicken run and green houses. The school is highly regarded in the local area and demand for places was high with an increasing birth rate and new housing in the Farsley and Calverley area.
In order to cater for this demand, the school made the decision to add a small single storey extension to form a new classroom at the rear of the junior block. In addition, it was decided to make alterations to the grounds to give the children an improved play area and to enhance their learning experience.
We were invited by R.H. Fullwood & Co. Ltd. to submit a tender for the scheduled work following our previous relationship with them, including work on three other primary schools. Our tender was successful and we began work at Farsley Farfield Primary School in April 2014.
The scope of YPP Groundwork’s work consisted of:
- Groundworks and drainage for small rear extension
- Strip footings with a concrete slab
- A new tarmac playground
- Block paved seating area
- Raised Planters
YPP Groundworks completed our work in August 2014 and the new classroom was ready for occupation at the start of the new term as scheduled. The project has assisted in allowing Farsley Farfield Primary School to increase its pupil capacity from 315 to 420. The new tarmac playground and seating area has provided a more pleasant area for the pupils during break times, with the raised planters allowing the children to grow their own vegetables.
